| Freeze Frame by Geoff Taylor She trotted gracefully from the woods. The way she
moved instantly suggested huge forests and vast empty hillsides untouched
by man. This was no ordinary creature. She stopped and glanced
towards me as if she was looking at an equal. She gave the
impression of immense power and strength. Her muscles flexed under
the skin of the shoulder and neck and then down to the long legs with
enormous paws. She was now silhouetted against the setting sun,
straining to hear the slightest sound. A few seconds later she threw
back her head and let out an eerie howl that echoed across the wilderness. |
Wolves are one of the most misunderstood
creatures of the world. They are stereo-typed as mindless killers
and popular myth always portrays them as rampaging beasts. For these
very reasons, they have been persecuted almost to the point of extinction
all because of a lack of knowledge, understanding and ignorance, not to
mention fear.
They are in fact highly complex animals that demand both
our admiration and respect. rarely do they show real aggression to
each other for they rely on other group members for survival.
Through works such as 'Freeze Frame' and 'Winter Pause',
Geoff Taylor has attempted to provide an insight into a diversity of life
that would not otherwise be experienced. These powerful and
provocative images are designed not only to be thought provoking and
stimulating but to also encourage understanding of the subject. |
| About Geoff Taylor
Born in Lancaster, Geoff Taylor did his initial training
at Chesterfield College of Art. Following this, he spent several
years working as a graphic designer for a number of advertising agencies,
however, he became disillusioned with commercial work and escaped to the
Yorkshire Moors. On his return, he chose to develop his creative
side and started with a variety of freelance book jackets, which to date
include, The Lord of the Ring Trilogy and works by Jack Vance, Katherine
Kerr and William Horwood. During a holiday in Canada, Geoff took
time to fully experience the vast wilderness by absorbing his
surroundings. Here he met Tony Haighway of Wolf Watch UK who
introduced him to a new passion which was to break the cycle of book cover
commissions. Geoff now indulges his interest, however his work does
have a serious purpose; aiming to reverse the bad publicity wolves
receive, whilst highlighting their plight as an endangered species. |
